The fractional amounts of radiation transmitted through each sample and the varying thickness of lead are compared in order to evaluate the material samples for tests. This is achieved by cutting out small 2 1/2” circular discs of Drape Armour™ material. A high frequency generator energizes a diagnostic X-ray tube, which is the source of radiation. Film and an ionization chamber are employed to record the fractional amounts of transmitted radiation. In order to guarantee precise consistency between test sessions and samples, the accelerating potential and X-ray beam half-value layers are both actively monitored. The exposure is adjusted to produce an optical density that falls within the linear response range of the film. Attenuation measurement tests were conducted within the 60-120 kVp range.
