Rat Operant Conditioning System

The Ugo Basile Fear Conditioning system is comprised of the following: Isolation cubicle, which includes all electronics, a fan, IR/VIS lights, and a camera (up to 16 cubicles can be connected to a single PC).

We offer the animal cage in a variety of dimensions to accommodate rats and mice, as well as an observational learning version that enables two animals to observe one another. The standard cage features a circular opening; however, a vertical door is also available.

A single license is necessary for a video-tracking system, regardless of the number of cages. The current on the grid floor can be measured using an electronic shock meter, which is an optional accessory.

The Pavlovian association between an unpleasant unconditioned stimulus (shock) and a conditioned neutral stimulus (sound cue) is exploited. Rodents, as predated animals, respond by freezing (remaining immobile) in response to fearful circumstances, such as a shock.input:
output:When the sound is presented without shock, freezing will also occur once the animal has memorized the association. This is the principle of Fear Conditioning, which is also associated with the modification of the visual/tactile context (appearance) to ensure that the animal is responding to the association with the sound rather than the environment (cued and contextual fear conditioning).
