The ambient air is compressed and purified to eliminate oil, water, and dust. Subsequently, it is introduced into the pressure swing adsorption equipment, which consists of two adsorption towers that are filled with carbon molecular sieve. Oxygen molecules are adsorbed on the surface of the carbon molecular sieve as compressed air flows through the adsorption tower from the bottom to the top. Nitrogen exits the upper end of the adsorption tower and enters the crude nitrogen buffer tank. The carbon molecular sieve in the adsorption tower becomes saturated with adsorbed oxygen over time and requires regeneration. The adsorption step is halted and the pressure of the adsorption tower is reduced to achieve regeneration. In order to guarantee continued nitrogen output, the two adsorption towers alternate between adsorption and regeneration.
