Open Combination The distillation apparatus is mounted above the digestion portion, and Kjeldahl units are supported by a robust, tubular steel framework. There are models that can digest and distill up to 12 samples simultaneously.

Hooded Combination The distillation and digestion apparatus are enclosed by Kjeldahl units to ensure that process heat is contained and vented from the laboratory. Three collars are present on the hood that encircles the apparatus: one for the connection of a remotely-located exhaust blower, one for the connection of an acid fume exhaust manifold, and one for the connection of an auxiliary-air blower inlet. There are models that can digest and distill up to 18 samples simultaneously.
