General Information
The Columbus Instruments Oxymax EConomy System is an indirect open circuit calorimeter that is intended to measure the metabolic performance of multiple subjects with similar ventilation requirements in a simultaneous manner. The monitoring system measures the volume of oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations at the inlet and outlet ports of a chamber, canopy, tent, or mask that is forcibly ventilated with a known flow of air. The calculation of oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production, respiratory exchange ratio, and heat is based on the difference in gas concentrations and flow information. The Oxymax Economy’s data is adjusted to a STP of 760 mmHg and 0°C. The system displays data in user-defined, normalized formats. input:
output:The Oxymax Economy is designed to facilitate the positive ventilation of multiple subjects. Before entering the equal flow distribution system, the total flow of a single source of air is precisely monitored. A manifold is incorporated into the equal flow distribution system to ensure that the incoming flow is distributed equally among all attached chambers. A maximum of 16 chambers is supported. Within the instrument, a secondary flow meter ensures that the total flow is distributed accurately. Positive ventilation systems that deliver 100 mL/min to 10 LPM per subject can be provided for the Oxymax EConomy. Please consult Columbus Instruments regarding the specifics of your application.
