The “capture” system is employed in the Enzyme ImmunoAssay (ELISA) to determine IgM class antibodies to Hepatitis A Virus in human plasma and sera. The kit may be employed to identify the viral agent responsible for hepatitis in the patient and to monitor the acute phase of the infection. For diagnostic purposes only in vitro.input:

output:In spite of the hepatitis A vaccine’s licensure in 1995, it remains one of the most frequently reported vaccine-preventable diseases worldwide. The potential to eliminate indigenous transmission of hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection and substantially reduce disease incidence could be achieved through the widespread vaccination of appropriate susceptible populations. After an average incubation period of 28 days (range, 15-50 days), HAV, a 27-nm RNA agent classified as a picornavirus, can induce either asymptomatic or symptomatic infection in humans. Symptoms of the illness caused by HAV infection typically manifest abruptly, and may include fever, malaise, anorexia, nausea, abdominal discomfort, dark urine, and jaundice. The probability of experiencing symptoms associated with HAV infection is correlated with the individual’s age. The majority of infections in children under the age of six (70%) are asymptomatic; jaundice is typically not present when illness does occur. Jaundice is observed in over 70% of patients, and infection is typically symptomatic in older children and adults. The duration of signs and symptoms is typically less than two months; however, 10%-15% of symptomatic individuals experience a prolonged or relapsing disease that can last up to six months.
