Liquor There are two types of chromatography columns: capillary and packed. Packed columns are typically composed of glass or stainless steel tubing that is filled with packing that is coated with the stationary phase. Capillary columns are fused-silica capillaries with a small bore that are used to retain the stationary phase coating on their inner surface. Capillary columns have a significantly higher separation efficiency than packed columns; however, their sample loading capacity is more restricted.
