The standard explorer used for operational purposes is Explorer 17-23 by InstruDents X. For the purposes of furcation, restorations, pocket exploration, calculus diagnosis, and caries.

For the purposes of furcation, restorations, pocket exploration, calculus diagnosis, and caries. Oral examinations frequently involve the utilization of explorers. They investigate regions between the teeth that are difficult to access in order to detect a subgingival calculus or remove foreign objects.
They are also employed for the following purposes:
- Areas in close proximity to contact surfaces
- distal surfaces- Investigating surface grooves that are obstructed- Blade with a back action and an extended lower shank- Examining the areas beneath the tooth surfaces- Identifying and examining subgingival calculusThe handles of the Explorers by InstruDents X are ergonomically designed to be comfortable and easy to grip, with a maximum thickness of 12mm. This design reduces hand strain.
