Description

The BD Vacutainer® CPT™ is a fully-closed system that is used to separate mononuclear cells from whole blood. The separation process is conducted in the primary blood collection tube. This minimizes variability from sample processing by reducing the complexity of steps for mononuclear cell separation. CPT™ is a sterile, evacuated blood collection tube that contains an inert gel barrier, liquid density medium, and either buffered sodium citrate or sodium heparin anticoagulant. It is designed for the in vitro diagnostic examination of mononuclear blood cells by collecting whole blood and subsequently separating it. Standard phlebotomy techniques are employed to draw whole blood directly into the CPT™, which is then processed in the same tube. The gel establishes a physical barrier between the erythrocytes and granulocytes and the mononuclear cells in the plasma during centrifugation. The primary blood collection tube can then be used to transport the separated, concentrated suspension of mononuclear cells in plasma.
