output:The Barnes Maze task is comparable to the Radial Arm and Morris Water mazes, but it is less physically demanding and does not impose dietary restrictions. The Barnes Maze is intended to evaluate spatial learning and memory. Animals are incentivized to flee from the brightly lit, open platform and enter a small, dark, recessed chamber (escape box) within the maze. The animal acquires knowledge of the escape box's spatial location during the testing process. False escape boxes are also incorporated into the maze to eliminate visual cues that may be visible from a distance or through an open hole.input:
