The EQUISTREAM® and EQUISTREAM® XK Long-Term Hemodialysis Catheters are intended for the purpose of establishing short-term or long-term vascular access for apheresis, hemoperfusion, or hemodialysis therapy. Access is obtained through the internal jugular vein, external jugular vein, subclavian vein, or femoral vein. Catheters that are longer than 40 cm are intended for femoral vein insertion.ContraindicationPatients who exhibit severe, uncontrolled thrombocytopenia or coagulopathy are contraindicated from using this device.WARNING: The catheter should be percutaneously inserted into the axillary-subclavian vein at the junction of the outer and mid-thirds of the clavicle, lateral to the thoracic outlet. The catheter should not be inserted medially into the subclavian vein, as this can result in the catheter being compressed between the first rib and clavicle, which can cause damage, fracture, or embolization of the catheter.One. In order to demonstrate that the catheter is not being pinched by the first rib and clavicle, fluoroscopic or radiographic confirmation of catheter tip placement should be beneficial.One
