Agarose LE is capable of conducting analyses of nucleic acids and proteins of varying sizes, ranging from 150 bp to 25 kbp.
Improved resolution and shorter run times are achieved as a result of the low EEO (≤ 0.13-mr) that promotes increased electrophoretic mobility. This also enables macromolecules and larger particles (such as viruses and subcellular fragments) to migrate more freely through the gel matrix. The band distortion that can be caused by counter flow, which is a consequence of the presence of excessive sulfate-rich negative ions, is also reduced by the consistently low EEO.
Agarose LE is extensively employed in a variety of blotting protocols, analytic and preparative nucleic acid electrophoresis, and protein electrophoresis (including radial immunodiffusion). It is simple to use, free of nucleases, and easily soluble. It is highly transparent (forms a clear, colorless solution at a ratio of 1g to 100ml of H2O) and demonstrates an exceptionally low absorption of chemical staining agents. Simple adjustments to the concentration ratio can be made to regulate the size of the pores.
